Want to give us a hand?

Image

It’s that time of year.  The big push of planting is winding down, and meanwhile the weeds have been sneaking in and trying to take over.  We won’t let them!  Hand weeding can be kind of fun.  No, I’m not joking.  Come out and join us!  Just let me know when you have a little time, to make sure that Matt or I can work with you.

If you haven’t eaten your favas yet

Julie Lepore, a new CSA member, shared this recipe with me:

Bring a pot of water to a boil, throw the whole pods in and cook for 3-4 minutes, then take them out and shock them in cold water. Pop the beans out of the pods and shell them into a bowl.  Squeeze in some lemon juice and olive oil, grate a garlic clove into the bowl and add fresh chopped parsley, salt and pepper.  All of it can be added in whatever amounts/ratios you like.  Then just let them sit and soak up some flavor while you cook whatever else you’re making.

I’ll start picking them again tomorrow!

another rainy wednesday!

there’s a chance that it might stop this afternoon, but we are most likely going to set up the table in the new hoophouse (the bigger one, across from the cemetery)

that way, you can pull your cars in a little closer, as long as they can handle the muddy rutted road.  hopefully that will be a better, roomier dry space too.

and next week, let’s have some sun, ok?

Getting your veg

Well, at least we didn’t have to worry about things wilting in the heat today.  We are ready for tomorrow’s pick up at the house in Providence.  Thank you to everyone for letting us know what day you’re coming!  There’ll be eggs for sale, but not too many.  The new hens haven’t started laying, and the old ones are slowing down.

We’ll set up in the driveway, with the tent if the rain doesn’t stop.

If you pick up at the farm wednesday PLEASE drive in the driveway in front of the barn on Greenville Ave.  Turn right in front of the barn by the crooked cedar tree.  There is a grassy area where you can park right there.  PLEASE do not park on Carpenter St. and go across the backyard.  And parking on Greenville is pretty hairy too. The red planet parking lot is lovely and smells like mint.

We set up a table towards the back of the barn.  Lucy, our border collie, barks her head off but she’s really totally friendly. We have some gorgeous greens and herbs and roots and SCAPES.  Looking forward to seeing you all!
